On the Other Hand…
Hawaii seems to have a much more supportive attitude toward recreational boating. That state plans to brighten its parks, boat harbors and other recreational sites with $240 million in repairs. In the Honolulu Star Bulletin, Rob Shikina reports that plans include connecting a string of parks on the Big Island for long distance hikes, camping areas and canoe routes… biking, walking and jogging trails… boat ramps, slips, canoes sheds and kayak launching areas. Part of the funding will come from park entrance fees for non residents, but this will not start until after the improvements have been made.
They’re not sitting on the money, either. $30 million in projects are ready to go out to bid this summer.
