To operate a pleasure craft within the boundaries of Toronto Harbour, boaters must be 14 years of age or older, and must carry with them a valid Toronto Port Authority Powered Vessel Operator’s Permit, in addition to the PCOC or equivalent proof of competency.

To get the permit, boaters must successfully complete both a written test and a practical examination, which proves a level of competency at boat handling.

Permits expire at the end of each calendar year.  Renewal forms will be sent to the address on the permit in April of the following year, but boaters can apply for renewal on line at any time.

To book an appointment for the written and practical test, please call 416 778-1230.
