Sail and Power Boats from 6 to 12 Meters
Safety equipment requirements

Sail and Power Boats from 6 to 9 meters (19’ 8” to 29’ 6”) in length

 

Note:  please see the definitions for each of these safety devices

 

1.     One approved personal flotation device or lifejacket of appropriate size for everyone on board

2.     One buoyant heaving line

3.     One re-boarding device

4.     One paddle or oar, or one anchor with at least 15 meters (50 feet) of cable, rope or chain.

5.     One bailer or manual bilge pump

6.     One watertight flashlight

7.     Six type A, B, or C flares

8.     One sound signaling device

9.     Navigation lights

10. Magnetic compass

11. Radar Reflector

a.     Not required in limited traffic conditions, daylight and favourable weather where it is not essential to the boat’s safety

b.     Or when the small size of the boat or its operation away from navigation makes the reflector impractical

12. One 5BC fire extinguisher if boat is equipped with a motor

13. One 5BC fire extinguisher if boat has an inboard engine, fixed fuel tank or fuel burning appliance such as a stove, heater or refrigerator

 

 

Sail and Power Boats from 9 to 12 meters (29” 6” to 39’ 4”) in length

1.     One approved personal flotation device or lifejacket of appropriate size for everyone on board

2.     One buoyant heaving line

3.     One lifebuoy attached to a buoyant line at least 15 meters (50 feet) long.

4.     One re-boarding device

5.     One anchor with at least 15 meters (50 feet) of cable, rope or chain.

6.     Bilge pumping arrangements

7.     One watertight flashlight

8.     Twelve type A, B, C, or D flares, not more than 6 of which are Type D

9.     One sound signaling device

10. Navigation lights

11. Magnetic compass
