How to Register a Boat in Canada

Vessel Registration.

 

These are the boats that must be registered with the Canadian Register of Vessels:

1)   Boats of 15 gross tonnes (16.53 tons) or less that are used for commercial purposes with motors of 10 horsepower (7.5 kW) or more

2)   Commercial river rafts

3)   Boats requiring marine mortgages

4)   Boats with approved names and ports of registry

5)   Government owned vessels and commercial vessels licensed with Canada Customs (please see government site for details)

 

Note: Owners must inform the Canadian Register of Vessels of any changes in the Registration such as a change in address or ownership.
